Times of India launched its Weekend special Crest Edition in Chennai today. It’s newspaper and magazine rolled into one says the editor Jaideep Bose. To me its a magazine in newspaper format. Also I find the 36-page broadsheet Crest edition bit bulky, a tabloid edition would be more comfortable for a weekend read.
At its introductory price of Rs.6 its much cheaper compared to other weekly Newsmagazines. I believe more newspapers will follow suit in the years to come and the competition in the News magazine segment is going to get tough.
I’m waiting for a similar Crest edition from the Indian business newspapers, The Economic Times or Mint to challenge the likes of Business World and Outlook Business.
