This week’s Outlook Business cover story focuses on some niche companies in India. One story that is interesting to me is Hyderabad based BK Environmental Innovation Ltd’s, Edible cutlery.

The concept of edible cutlery was invented centuries ago. Think of ice cream cones. Edible cone eliminated the need for a bowl and spoon. However there was no other significant invention after the ice cream cone.

Nice to know an Indian firm is leading the innovation in that space now. What makes it so special is its environment friendliness. Even if you throw it away, it degrades within a day.

So the next time you are waiting for dish in the hotel, you can have the spoon itself as an appetizer.
