Online Booking – What should be the small bus operators strategy?

Have you ever seen ads for 15-20 different websites in a public place? Don’t think about a tech symposium or blog conference. And the answer is bus stand!

I’ve seen many ads of many online ticket booking websites in the Chennai Koyambedu omni bus stand. It’s not only by the leading online bus ticket booking players like Redbus or Ticketvala. Every bus has its own booking website and it was promoted with the website name being painted in larger font in the outer body of the bus.

The promoters of redbus, who started the online bus ticket booking website 5 years back due to the lack of easy booking facility could have envisaged a lot of competition from other similar players like ticketgoose, ticketkaran etc but definitely not from each and every bus operators.

Large bus operators like KPN or Parveen travels having their own website is understandable as they have more fleets and cater to many different destinations. But is it really required for a travels that cater to 4 or 5 destinations only.

Will it be beneficial for the small bus operators to develop and maintain their own ticket booking websites? Or is it better to pay the fees and access the service from third parties? What do you think?
